The love story of Ali & Erik

While I am sure I could recount their wonderful story, it’s always nice to have a description straight from the couple. This is their story, as told by Ali.

Erik and I met at Carleton University and started dating in September 2010. On June 6th [2015], Erik asked me to marry him and we can’t wait to be done with school, buy our first house, and start planning our fairy-tale wedding!

We are both very academic-oriented: I just finished my professional Master of Architecture degree and Erik will be completing his Master of Applied Science in Aerospace Engineering within the next few months. Yes we work hard, but we play harder! We both like to be involved in various activities that have helped us build an incredible network of friends. This past year, I was elected National President of my Sorority (Alpha Pi Phi) governing over 500 women across Canada. Erik was president of the Carleton University Engineering Society and is acting president of the Engineering Alumni Society. We love attending parties, hosting parties, planning parties – and we know our wedding will be one for the history books!

We get the term “power-couple” a lot because both Erik and I are lucky enough to have found aspects of our lives where we excel. Erik is a two-time National Powerlifting Champion and has recently been asked to join team Canada competing on the world stage. He can deadlift more than 730lbs… insane right?! I fly with him to all his competitions and support his intense training programs. It makes me so happy to see him succeed. I was a leader in my sorority for the past 5 years but recently, my Master of Architecture thesis has been gaining a lot of traction. I studied the wooden grain elevators in the prairies and re-imagined them as spaces for people. It made national news on CBC and I have been asked to do articles for academic journals, women empowerment magazines and Carleton University promotional material! Erik has been a tremendous supporter from through the ups and downs of architecture school and I know I couldn’t have done it without him!

Together we push each other to be the absolute best versions of ourselves and we fall more in love with each passing day.

Engagement Session in Strathcona Park Ottawa

The engagement photos of Ali & Erik

It wasn’t a particularly sunny day, but it was certainly a bittersweet and lovely evening as the storm clouds rolled in. The rain thankfully held out until after our engagement session in Strathcona Park, and we were able to capture stunning portraits of Ali and Erik sharing each other’s love and laughter. The skyscape of Ottawa was a sight to be seen, and as the sunlight faded, the storm’s beauty only grew stronger. I’d like to think that this was a metaphor for their relationship: strong, meaningful, and unafraid of a little wind and rain.

The series of images below are my favourites! In fact, capturing these series is my favourite part of a session. Real emotion, real laughter, real love. The unplanned photographs always are..
